I HEART RETRO
(Bit of very inconsequential trivia, I worked on that movie a lifetime ago)

This past Saturday afternoon was relatively soggy as we hopped around town. To avoid the rain we popped into Llyod Center to watch the skating rink and the individuals enduring 60+ mph winds in the Hurricane Simulator. Thinking the rain had subsided briefly we starting strolling east on Broadway. With in a few blocks I noticed a sandwich board for I Heart Retro. Well, what a coincidence, because I heart retro too. Next door to an alterations shop, I Heart Retro has great mid-century furniture and home decor. There is no shortage of ceramic panthers or owls. In the back of the store you will find the clothing and the record collection. Well worth a peek.

Portland’s Finest: Top 3 Vintage and Consignment Shops

From admin on September 14th, 2010 in Portland

Sometimes the piece of furniture or accessory that best completes your design isn’t all shiny and new. In fact, it’s probably slightly worn and comes with untold stories. That’s why vintage and consignment stores are treasure troves that should never be brushed over. Here are our three favorites in the Portland area: (Click on link above to see full article with pictures)

Colorful store filled with 1960's and 1970's furniture, housewares, records, Women's vintage clothing and accessories. Some older items, some newer items. A working fireplace adds coziness to this store.

Be Kind, Rewind

Full confession: when we were little, we were that weird… ahem… unique kid who identified more with adults than with other little girls our age. We were old souls from the get-go, and it wasn’t until our friends caught up to us in college that we finally felt understood.

True to that old soul, we love vintage—with one little catch—the second we step into a vintage store, we feel overwhelmed and unable to make decisions. Luckily, we felt instantly at home at Broadway’s new I Heart Retro, a vintage fashion and furniture boutique with which we quickly fell in love. The difference between this chic store and others? Gone were the cramped displays of questionable merchandise and knick-knacks. Instead we found we found nicely staged furniture sets and ample display space for dishes, décor and accessories from years past.

And we didn’t have to ask ourselves the age-old vintage question, “Is this cool-vintage or tacky-vintage?” And just $61 later, we tore ourselves out of what could have been a pricey shopping trip. Our old soul was very happy… and very, very understood!

SULLIVAN'S GULCH
• That old furniture you got rid of decades ago has made a comeback, especially at Marla Watson's I Heart Retro, a vintage furniture shop that opened at
1726 N.E. Broadway in October. Staid to wild pieces from the 1950s into the '80s fill most of the large space that's a bit hard to spot. There's also some other home decor, clothing and such from the same era. Browsers are welcome. 503-287-3764
